My time as a student at UEA Sep 10, 2009
After completing my undergraduate BA in Development Studies at UEA, I knew that I wanted to go on and study at a postgraduate level specialising in Education and Development. I chose to return to UEA as it has a very strong support network and the department excels in its research and is extremely supportive to students of all levels. The Masters in Education and Development Studies has made me reassess how I think about education systems both at home in the UK and abroad. We were able to attend a conference in London and were invited to guest lectures as well as being able to enroll on modules collaborating with the school of Education. I think that the MA degrees in DEV are structured really well, I studied the units that interested me, and my core compulsory units were those relating to the specialism of the degree. We had regular housekeeping sessions with our course directors to make sure that if we had any problems we could voice them and talk about issues relating to coursework, exams, dissertations and general social matters. I have been a DEV sports rep for 3 years and encouraged as many members of the department (staff and students) to take part in sporting activities on a once-weekly basis. I have also been strongly associated with the social side of DEV, helping to run the end of year DEV Ball and organise many social excursions for MAED students to ensure everyone got to know each other. During the short one year I spent studying for my MA I have made some amazing friends from all over the world. DEV at UEA is a truly multidisciplinary department in terms of it teaching and the people who lecture and study there.
