Better known as Virginia Tech, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University has many departments and programs but continues to excel particularly with its forestry, agriculture, engineering, architecture and veterinary medicine programmes, which date back to the very beginnings of the formation of the university in 1872. Through a combination of its three missions of learning, discovery, and engagement, Virginia Tech continually strives to accomplish the charge of its motto: Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
Many people follow Virginia Tech with a military career and the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets is one of only two military organizations established as an integral part of a major United States University.
