Classified by the Carnegie Institute as a high research university Virginia Commonwealth University, or VCU, is an American research university and is located in Richmond, Virginia. It has achieved acclaim for its art, health administration, and medical degree programs and since it was founded in 1838 with just a handful of students the university has expanded over several campuses and is now school to more than 30,000 students, both graduates and undergraduates, who have open to them a wide array of study programs at most levels. Tom Robbins, author of Even Cowgirls Get the Blues was a graduate of VCU.
